Fisht Stadium was the main sports arena during the 2014 Winter Olympics. The design of the stadium was inspired by Mount Fisht and named after it. The unusual shape of the arena visually reminding the mountain has ensured the harmony with nature of the Imeretinskaya Valley.

The stadium is located in the Imeretinskaya Valley, in the Olympic Park, on the Nizhneimeretinskaya street. It was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies during the 2014 Winter Olympics.
If you travel by car, you should drive south along E97 and then turn right, following the roundabout in the direction of the Olympic Park.
The name of the Mount Fisht means “white head” in Adygei language. Initially, the architects were planning to build a stadium in a form of the Faberge egg. But later on, they decided to use the design combining two symbols: a snowy top of the mountain and a giant sea shell. The design based on asymmetrically arched vaults has gained success!
The Fisht front tribunes are open; the indoor ones are covered with transparent plastic. The idea behind the construction is that it allows seeing not only the sports competitions. You can observe the mountain peaks from the north and enjoy the sea view from the south of the solid transparent dome.
The stadium capacity is 40 000 seats, to the 2018 FIFA World Cup it will expand to 45 000 funs.
At the moment, the Fisht Olympic Stadium is the main sports arena of Sochi and the most popular city attraction. It is currently closed for renovation.
Here the city citizens and guests are welcome to:
- see the matches of the national football teams;
- participate in the cultural events and shows;
- the Fisht arena is a modern training centre for athletes.
The Fisht is located at the base of the Olympic Park facing the central square; other significant Olympic venues are sphering around the main square.
The roof of the stadium was constructed with the help of Fluon ® ETFE - lightweight and stable fluoropolymer film with two essential functions:
- the high protection against weather conditions;
- the ability to change colour (integrated LED backlight).
The LED feature is perfect for performing fascinating ceremonies as you can see in the photos.
Fisht Olympic Stadium has an international Green Building Certificate. Eco-friendly facilities have become very popular all over Russia after this famous stadium was built.
